Feel the Burn with SMOrc Shaman

Tempo Storm manager Reynad is absolutely killing it with a couple new post-mid-League of Explorers deck concepts, and his new SMOrc Shaman is by far my favorite. I was looking for an aggro-centric deck to try and just push my Rank 5 this month and get that golden Epic card. I think this is my deck to do it, because it’s really strong. The link’s above.

Now, how does it work? It’s aggro, to be sure, but you can definitely trade a few things in the first few turns. Clear off opposing Knife Jugglers and other niche good stuff like Sorcerer's Apprentice and Secretkeeper as you’d normally do, but by about turn 4 or so, just start hitting face. And rely on the fact that either Doomhammer or Lava Burst will help close it out for you. Honestly, in the current meta, they pretty much will a good amount of the time.

The beauty of the deck is that it’s kind of got two paths you can choose to take, depending on how you draw and mulligan. There’s the Mech route, and the overload cards route. Obviously you can mix and match these, but let’s do a mulligan example…

Let’s say you go second, and your mulligan hand is Mechwarper, Cogmaster, Tunnel Trogg, and Totem Golem. That would be a SICK opener, for one–congratulations on just getting it. But now, you’re at a serious fork in the road. Do you keep the mechs and toss away the other two, in hopes you get a second Mechwarper, or a Whirling Zap-o-matic? Or would you keep the new 1/3 Tunnel Trogg that gains attack based on overloading, and then drop Totem Golem turn 2, whilst hoping you get a Lightning Bolt or some other form of overload to buff the Tunnel Trogg even further?

Of these, I think the Tunnel Trogg + Totem Golem is the stronger start. But I’m not sure I’d mulligan away any of these four. If I kept both options open, I could see what the next two cards are and make a snap decision there. Or even if not, keeping Mechwarper out could give me cheaper Mechs later. But, if we alter the above example to instead be a flop of Mechwarper, Cogmaster, Powermace and Tunnel Trogg…I’d probably chuck out the Trogg in hopes for some more mech synergy. Of course, in doing so I could draw Totem Golem next, and grow to regret that–but, so goes Hearthstone.

Anyway, try it out, leave me a comment and let me know what you think! It’s super fun, I swear. Win or lose…it goes quick.
