Sometimes I like to take a “Wild” guess, just in case I’m right. That way, of course I can go back and yell “IN YO FACE!” at the top of my lungs to everyone. Especially people who would have no idea what I’m talking about.
Seriously, did you see what I did there? “Wild”? You know, like the new mode? Yeah. All over it.
So I’ve got one for Hearthstone, and let’s see how close I get. It’s at least a SOMEWHAT educated guess, based on at least some reasoning. So here goes: the new expansion will come out in early or mid March, and it will be based loosely on the Tempest Keep raids from the Burning Crusade.
What’s my reasoning? The Hearthstone team just announced that Standard will be the official format for the 2016 road to Blizzcon. Naturally, there’s not enough time to implement this before the Winter Preliminaries taking place later this month. But after that point, it would be a disservice to the pro scene to wait much longer before allowing them to play with the new format, and thus best prepare for the next leg of the championships.
Thus, I expect they will at least announce, if not flatly RELEASE the expansion at the beginning of March. Blizzard also seems to not want us to wait too long between announcing content, and releasing it–as evidenced by the super quick release of League of Explorers after Blizzcon.
Going down my prediction rabbit hole even further, why Tempest Keep? When Standard format releases, they will take the Naxxramas adventure and the Goblins vs Gnomes expansion out of competitive play. When this happens, a lot of really good Deathrattle and Mech synergies will go away with it. They have to write in a bunch of Mechs and Deathrattle cards, or else what is Museum Curator going to pull out? Sylvanas Windrunner every time? Actually, never mind, that’s okay…let’s leave it that way.
Tempest Keep is a pretty expansive set of endgame BC content. But what drew me to it as a guess was specifically its 5 man wing, the Mechanar. An entire Mech themed wing? Also, they haven’t really pulled a ton of flavor out of the Burning Crusade expansion yet–and there’s plenty of room for it. Plus Kael’thas could be the next Dr. Boom! Just think of it.
Anyway, let me know what you think in the comments. I really just wanted to get this out there, JUUUST in case I’m right. You know how it goes!
